I’m currently classified as being in “Mid-Life”. Which is super weird, in case you have not experienced this yet.
I have a teenager and still find myself thinking like one. Ick! Not in a weird way, don’t be gross. Just as in – I still get caught up in the moment and lose sight of the big picture. “This too shall pass” and all that other garbage my rational brain knows but my emotions are too illogical to accept… That kind of thinking like a teenager.
Just So I know… who the heck put me in charge of little people?! If my four decade old brain, the one who’s supposed to know, gets tripped up, how in the LOVE am I supposed to help these littles navigate their way out of that too?
Mind Boggling. Truly.
Also, let’s just get this out in the open, where the heck is the manual for this mess? (Listen, before you get too wild, I love Jesus. The question is rhetorical because even with my Bible – Life is HARD and CONFUSING and so very MESSY! Please don’t come at me, it’s only a joke-ish)
I’m sitting here trying to help Kid 1 navigate life, when I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life until about FIVE years ago… at 35.
Have you heard of Imposter Syndrome?
Hi. I’m the imposter.
And these kids feel like they need to have a plan for the entirety of their life at just 18 years of coddling and having everything done for them… and we say NOTHING! We just let them set themselves up for failure. because let’s be honest, the plan doesn’t work out. (I really want to geek out on studies here about mindset and goalposts, but I’ll keep it cool for now.) I hate using “absolutes” because they also set us up for failure, but let’s just be real. The plan NEVER works out. ever. And we are all somehow cool with just letting our littles set unrealistic expectations with no guidance on how to navigate it when they fall on their face.
What the actual –
Can we just stop this madness? None of us had it figured out so stop lying. Life happened to us all and there was a pivot. And that’s okay, in case no one has told you.
Here is what I have learned. No one has it “together” and that term is made up anyway. There is no such thing. we are all just playing it by ear, doing our [mostly] best, and winging life.
Weird. But it’s okay.
Anyway… until further notice,
-Savvy
